Emma, my great-grandmother and a middle-aged mother and wife in rural Iowa, started keeping a journal. It is a fascinating account of daily life from the late 1920s through the early 1950s. Losing everything in the Great Depression, moving to Oregon and finally to Pennsylvania, their story is a lens into history that touches on farm life, travel, food, faith, fashion, and family.

Each week I post a month of journal entries with links, images, and commentary. Here’s a link to the entries I’ve published so far. It’s a labor of love, and I’m having a grand time exploring. Come join me!
